Just like your clothes, your washer machine also needs cleaning every once in a while. A washing machine must leave you with pleasantly clean and nice-smelling laundry. If you don’t clean your laundry machine, after a while, it starts to get dirty and musty.. And when your washing machine gets grimy, it leads to dirty, mildew-scented clothing over time.

If you think your washer machine has reached the point of smelling, then you must clean it as soon as possible. With a little care and maintenance, you can keep your washer machine look clean and smell pleasant.

If you’re looking for tips on how to keep your washing machine clean and scented, you have reached the right place. In this post, you will find some simple and easy tricks to clean your washer machine. Let’s take a closer look.

Clean & Deodorize with Baking Soda and Vinegar

Make the Cleaning Solution with Baking SodaImage title

  • Take a bowl and mix 1/4 cup of water with 1/4 cup of baking soda to make a mixture. Put this solution in the detergent container of your washing machine. Do not add the mixture directly to the central cavity of your washer machine.

Put Vinegar into the Drum

  • Take some diluted white vinegar and pour around 2 cups of this mixture into your machine’s drum. Ensure nothing else is in the washing machine before adding this solution.

Now, Run the Machine

  • Once you add both baking soda and vinegar to your machine, run it on a full cycle setting. Run the washer on the hot or warm mode. Again, ensure you do not have any clothes inside the machine before running it.

Wipe down the Drum

  • Once you finish running the washer machine with the baking soda and vinegar, wipe out the interior to remove the vinegar smell. You can clean the inside of the washing machine with a sponge if needed.

Prevent Unpleasant Odors

  • Wipe Down the Insides of Your Machine Regularly

    • When you don’t maintain your washer machine, it starts to get smelly. A good preventative is to wipe down the insides regularly to ignore buildups of dirt and residue. To do so, take a warm washcloth and get into all the crannies and nooks. You may also use little vinegar to sanitize the interior of your washing machine.

  • Sterilize with Bleach

    • Put 2 cups of bleach into the detergent container of your laundry machine. Now, run the machine on a warm cycle mode for a few minutes (turn off the device when the water begins swishing around). After stopping, let the bleach and hot water sit in the machine for about 30 minutes and then clean it. Also, ensure to rinse out the bleach entirely before using the washer machine again. Otherwise, the leftover bleach can stain your clothes.

  • Use Detergents Made for Efficient Machines

    • Detergents that are made for high-efficiency washer machines are better for cleaning as they generate less foam during the cleaning procedure as compared to regular soaps. The use of high-quality detergent on a regular basis can help you in keeping your washing machine fresher for longer and also enable you to wash it less frequently.

Putting It All Together

These are some of the essential tips that can help you clean and deodorize your laundry machine. You can follow the tricks mentioned above once every two weeks for the maintenance of your washer machine. Not only will these tips help you in cleaning but are also great to kill germs, prevent limescale, and banish bad odors.
